Thickness varies piece to piece.
Blue range is likely to include an occasional piece of another color
Most often used for building walls, but colonial can also be used anywhere that standup is used. Smaller and lighter pieces are easier to handle.
First, select either full color range or blue color range. Full color range pallets may contain any or all of these colors: Brown, Rust, Blue, Gray, Lilac, Green. Blue color range pallets will consist of different shades of blue and gray, but they may also contain an occasional piece of another color.
Next, decide which thickness range you prefer. It's common to select some thin and some thick pallets and then blend the thicknesses as the project is installed.
Please note that for the structural integrity of the pallet the largest pieces will be on the outside and visible. The middle will contain much smaller pieces. The smallest pieces can be approximately the size of the palm of your hand. This product is widely varied in nature, thus the presence of smaller/larger pieces is expected. If the pieces pictured on the pallets above are not large enough, this same product is available in a range of average sizes. From smallest average size to largest: Colonial, Natural Cleft Garden path, "Side by side" Steppers, Homeowner pallet standup, and Standard pallet standup.
This natural cleft product is not precisely machined. For more consistent thickness, consider tumbled bluestone, garden path, or wallstone.
All pallets cost the same amount, and pallets are approximately 48" wide x 40" deep,
stacked about 30" high. Estimated volume is 30 cubic feet per pallet.
Please consult a masonry professional to determine and finalize your needs before ordering.
Individual pieces vary in thickness, pallets are offered within a few set thickness ranges.
1"- 3", 2"- 4", 3"- 6", and above.
They have a snapped edge.
The faces have the clefting found in all natural cleft products.
Natural cleft garden path offers a median size between colonial and standup. From smallest average size piece to largest: Colonial, Garden path, Homeowner pallet standup, Standard pallet standup.
Pieces are uniform in thickness (1-1/2")
and have a snapped edge.
Thermal finish may not be present on
100% of each face.
Wallstone has a blend of broken, random sizes within each layer on the pallet.
Smaller pieces than Garden Path
Just like Wallstone, but the average piece is larger.
First, determine what you need the average size piece to be.
Most pieces on a pallet of thermal Wallstone will be 1.5 to 2 sq ft. The smallest pieces should be
about the size of your hand. Larger pieces will be on the outside of the pallet to ensure structural integrity. Most pieces in a pallet of thermal or natural cleft Garden Path are 1 - 5 sq ft each,
with smaller pieces to fill in the gaps.
Next, decide if thermal or natural cleft is a better fit for your project. Natural cleft will be more varied in texture and thickness, Thermal will have a uniformly textured face and consistent thickness.
All pallets are approximately 48" wide x 36" deep, stacked about 30" high.
If building a wall, estimated volume is 30 cubic feet per pallet. If laying flat, estimated coverage for thermal is 150 sq ft. Estimated coverage for natural cleft varies depending on thickness range.
Please consult a masonry professional to determine and finalize your needs before ordering.
While thermal bluestone treads are most commonly used for stairs, sometimes a more rugged look is needed for the project. Steppers are the best way to get a natural cleft finish for your stairway project.
Steppers are also often used to build retaining walls.
Steppers are ordered by thickness range: 4 - 6" thick (normally 5 or 6 pieces per pallet); 6 - 8" thick (approx. 4 pieces per pallet); 8 - 10" thick (normally 3 pieces per pallet) and 10" - 12" (2 or 3 pcs per pallet). While steppers are palletized by thickness so the pieces are similar, there is some variation in thickness from piece to piece. If all pieces must have the exact same thickness, thermal bluestone treads are a better option.
Steppers are sorted by thickness as they are palletized. The stones are aligned on the pallet along one edge (the right-hand side in the image above) which is the edge that will be visible after install.
Each piece is unique, and steppers are not normally rectangular, so the back edges (which will be buried in the slope of the ground) vary in shape. It's a good idea to order a few more than you need in order to allow for installation flexibility
The pallet above is a "side - by - side" pallet.
Normally steppers are roughly the width of the 48" wide pallet (some pieces are shorter and some that overhang - see image above) but side - by - side pallets contain multiple pieces per layer. This can be helpful if your application requires pieces that are smaller than standard steppers, but larger than colonial or natural cleft garden path.
This same product is available in a range of average sizes. From smallest average size to largest: Colonial, Natural Cleft Garden path, "Side by side" Steppers, Homeowner pallet standup, and Standard pallet standup.
First, determine what you need the average thickness per piece to be. The "rise" of a staircase is how high each step is as you walk up the stairs. When using steppers as a staircase most masons suggest either 4 - 6" or 6 - 8" range for a comfortable rise. Thicker stones are normally used for walls, or as a rugged seat.
If building a set of stairs, it's helpful to provide the total "rise" of the entire staircase when you order. That allows us to "round up" to the nearest pallet to make sure the pallets we select for you will be enough to cover the entire run. The shape and size of each stone varies greatly, so we recommend ordering a few more than the minimum needed to allow installation flexibility.

Fieldstone is highly desirable for its weathered texture and vast color range. Fieldstone is harvested from ancient walls / piles of stone that farmers made in between their fields (hedge rows) as they removed stone from their fields each spring.
Exposure to the weather for decades (sometimes more than a century) gives a uniquely rugged texture to this variety of bluestone

Similar to Fieldstone, but smoother and rounded from years underwater. As with fieldstone, specify desired thickness range when ordering.
First, determine what "look" you prefer. Fieldstone is rugged and weathered. Creekstone is smoother in texture.
Next: Determine which thickness range you prefer. It's common to select some thin and some thick pallets and then blend the thicknesses as the project is installed.
All pallets cost the same amount, and pallets are approximately 48" wide x 36" deep,
stacked about 30" high. Estimated volume is 30 cubic feet per pallet.

Like the smaller pieces shown above, Fieldstone Boulders were removed from fields by farmers. They are heavily weathered from many years exposed to the elements. Pieces are stacked on pallets in the field and then wrapped with chicken wire for shipment.
Each pallet is unique. Provide us with details of what you're looking for and we'll source boulders for your particular project .
Bluestone's grain structure is very linear, so round boulders are very rare.
Some people call Fieldstone "Moss Rock" because it sometimes has moss still attached when palletized.
Each pallet costs the same amount, whether it contains a single stone or multiple.
We custom source all boulder orders. Provide us with project requirements and we'll "shop" around to see what we can find. We'll provide pictures and pricing before you commit to purchase.
Random broken tumbled bluestone is available in 1-1/2" and 2" thicknesses. Solid sizes are available in 2" only.
This product stacks easily because each piece is the same thickness
Tumbled bluestone can be ordered in 6" x 6", 6" x 12", 12" x 12" or 12" x 18" pieces (nominal sizing). Larger pieces are difficult to produce due to loss during the tumbling process. Call to discuss custom sizes and we'll determine if they can be sourced.
This product is produced by tumbling saleable thermal bluestone pattern, so the cost includes the base price of the stone plus the cost and loss incurred during the tumbling process. Thereby, specific sizes are much more expensive than random / broken pallets.
Each piece is a different shape, similar to standup or colonial. This product is produced by tumbling pieces of thermal pattern that were broken during the manufacturing process. Because they are a byproduct, these pallets are significantly less expensive than solid.
Tumbled bluestone will be almost entirely in the blue color range, however
an occasional piece with brown or some other color may be seen.
First, decide which thickness you need. Both 1-1/2" and 2" thicknesses are available.
Then, decide if you want solid pallets or random broken. Solid pallets are priced by the square footage on the pallet. 1-1/2" pallets will contain approximately 192 sq ft. 2" pallets will contain approximately 144 sq ft. Random broken pallets are priced by the pallet. Each pallet measures 48" wide, 36" deep and approximately 30" high. Approx 30 cubic feet of coverage per pallet.

One of our favorite examples of this service was the bar tops we sourced for Youngblood Vineyard's Tasting Room. www.youngbloodvineyard.com We sourced large natural cleft sheets and cut them to width. The client loved the "live edge" look so we left the quarry edges wherever possible. We thermalled and eased the edges to ensure customer comfort as they lean on the table to enjoy their wine. They used bluestone steppers for the columns under each table.
We very much enjoyed the design collaboration and love their finished install.
We give every customer the same level of dedication and care, regardless of purchase volume. Let us find the right stone for YOU!
